7-Eleven Mexico launches own virtual currency

As a part of their loyalty program, 7-Eleven Mexico launches the “Big Coin” – its own virtual currency. With this the company will engage the customer to use the online presence and interact with the brand. The customers could get Big Coins by logging into the company’s blog, reading, sharing and commenting on product pages and such more. The Big Coins are stored in digital wallets and can only be used for dedicated products and promotions yet, but 7-Eleven Mexico is looking to implement a virtual currency to the stores, too.

By the engagement of several payment services, it’s possible to pay with Bitcoin in the 7-Eleven stores in different countries, when they accept the payment methods. Since September 2014 the 7-Eleven outlets in Mexico accept Bitcoin with the payment service Pademobile which has integrated Coinbase accounts. In Soutch Korean the startup Coinplug bring the possibility to pay with Bitcoins in mor than 8,000 7-Eleven stores across the country.

The Big Coin Marketing effort was developed by Xolex Consultores, a web agency that accept Bitcoin as a payment method for their services.One of the partners of the web agency, Manuel Alejandro Flores, is also sthe CEO of the Monterrey’s Bitcoin Community which is looking to promote the usage of Bitcoin in the region. So the knowledge of virtual currencies and the benefits is given.
